Join us for a nourishing weekend retreat at beautiful Seven Springs, as we explore the ancient art of herbalism and ground ourselves through yoga and meditation. This herbal medicine immersion is designed to connect you with plants as allies and empower you to start using them to heal your own body, your family, and your community.  

The workshop curriculum for this training will include the following:

  • Morning yoga asana and meditation class
  • Intro to Herbal Actions
  • Herbal Tonics for strengthening the entire body
  • Herbs for Stress & Nervous System Issues
  • Herbs for Immune Support
  • Plant Meditations
  • Plant Walks
  • Herbal Medicine Making 101 (including tinctures, teas, salves, herbal vinegars, syrups, and more)

In addition everyone will have the opportunity to make and take home several of their own herbal products to jump start their own home apothecary. This workshop is suited for both the beginner herbalist and yogi, as well as those with more experience. 

Cost (Tuition + Room & Board):
$250 BYO camping
$290 for shared yurt
All options include 6 hearty and nutritious vegetarian meals.

UT Knox's Sustainability Fair

On Thursday, October 22, 2015, Earth Day’s half birthday, the University of Tennessee Office of Sustainability will be participating in Campus Sustainability Day! Since 2002, campuses nationally have celebrated a day in honor of sustainability every October and in the intervening years it has gained widespread support from environmental organizations like AASHE and groups like the The New York Times Knowledge Network. UT’s main Sustainability Day event  will take place from 12:00-4:00 PM in the HSS Amphitheater. The event will serve as a platform for environmentally minded individuals of UT and the Knoxville area to celebrate sustainability, share ideas for local action, showcase environmental and responsible leadership, and create a marketplace for local and purposeful commerce. Vendors and exhibitors from around the Knoxville area will be participating with lots of exciting products, information, and games, so don’t miss out!

We’ll talk about when and how to use herbs, the different forms in which you can take them (teas, tinctures, etc), safe and effective dosage, and more. We’ll also discuss different approaches to working with herbs and focus on 3 or 4 of my favorite tonic herbs to start using every day. Class will include a plant meditation, as well as tea tasting. Everyone will get to bring home their own nourishing tea blend. Bring your own mug!

Whippoorwill Festival!

Now in it's fifth year, the goal of Whippoorwill is to promote sustainable living in Appalachia by sharing earth-friendly living skills with one another in a joyful, healthy, family-friendly atmosphere.  This year's festival features over 75 workshops throughout the 4 days. This will be my 3rd year at the festival and I'm honored to be teaching 2 classes.  Tickets are still available and include camping and communal breakfasts and dinners. This nourishing full day herbal medicine intensive is designed to help empower you to start using plants to heal your own body, your family, and your community. As part of this class, we will explore herbs for stress, nervous system issues, and general tonics for strengthening the entire body.  We will explore herbs around Buckeye Farm and learn a variety of different types of medicine making hands-on, including teas, tinctures, salves, herbal vinegars, syrups, and more.  As part of the class, everyone will get to make and take home their own 8 oz tincture and healing salve.
